The ICC has reported Bangladesh off-spinner Aliss Al Islam for a suspect bowling action after the UAE Tri-Series match against Afghanistan in Sharjah. The report followed concerns raised by the match officials about the legality of the 29-year-old’s action.

The match was played on Wednesday, 21 October, and Bangladesh lost it. It was Aliss’s ODI debut, and he conceded 47 runs from 8.3 overs.

The details

Aliss’s action will now be assessed independently at an ICC Accredited Testing Centre under the ICC Illegal Bowling Action Regulations. According to ANI’s report, he may continue to bowl in international matches until the results of that assessment are known.

Bowlers are allowed up to 15 degrees of elbow extension, and that is the limit against which such actions are judged.

This is not the first time he has been flagged. He was reported in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2019 and again in 2025. Earlier this month he received his maiden T20I cap, in Bangladesh’s Asian Games fixture against Sri Lanka.

Tri-series context

Bangladesh had already lost their tri-series games to Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. Zimbabwe and Afghanistan were set to meet in the final on 23 October.

What’s next

Bangladesh’s next scheduled fixtures are two games against West Indies in the West Indies tour of Bangladesh, 2026: the first on Wednesday, 28 October at 9:00 AM IST and the second on Thursday, 5 November at 9:00 AM IST.

Afghanistan play Zimbabwe in UAE on Tuesday, 27 October, Thursday, 29 October and Sunday, 1 November, each at 8:00 PM IST. Bangladesh and Afghanistan last met in a Test on 9 October, which ended in a draw.
