Robin Uthappa named Mumbai Indians batting coach for IPL 2027
Robin Uthappa, the former India batter, will be Mumbai Indians’ batting coach for IPL 2027, the franchise announced on Friday, 30 October. He joins a new coaching group led by head coach Kieron Pollard.
The 40-year-old played for Mumbai Indians in the inaugural IPL season. His brief, according to the franchise’s statement, is to develop the team’s batting, sharpen tactical decisions and help players adapt to the demands of T20 cricket.
The new support staff
Mitchell McClenaghan is the new bowling coach. He played for Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2020 and was part of the title-winning campaigns in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
T. Dilip comes in as fielding coach. He was part of the Indian men’s coaching setup during the 2024 and 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup wins and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Dhawal Kulkarni returns as development bowling coach, a year-round role focused on young Indian bowlers. He previously played for the franchise in two spells, 2008-2013 and 2020-21.
Why the changes
The appointments follow Mumbai Indians parting ways on Thursday with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson. That came after Pollard was promoted from batting coach to head coach.
