Mominul Haque out of Sylhet Test with concussion; Amite Hasan in
Mominul Haque has been ruled out of Bangladesh’s second Test against West Indies, which starts in Sylhet on 5 November, after a head injury suffered while fielding in the first Test in Mirpur. Right-handed batter Amite Hasan has been named in a 15-member squad as his replacement.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the change after the eight-wicket defeat in Mirpur, which leaves West Indies 1-0 up in the two-match series.
Why Mominul cannot return
The ICC concussion protocol requires a minimum of seven calendar days away from play, which rules Mominul out of the Sylhet Test. Concussion substitute Jaker Ali Anik came in for him during the Mirpur Test.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said he did not think Mominul would be able to play the second Test under the concussion rules, calling it entirely a medical issue.
Who is Amite Hasan
Amite Hasan is a wicketkeeper-batter who has played one Test. ICC says he has scored 4040 runs in 54 red-ball domestic matches at an average of 50.50.
Apart from his inclusion, the squad is unchanged from the first Test. Najmul Hossain Shanto remains captain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz vice-captain.
What’s next
Bangladesh must win the second Test, which begins at 9:00 AM IST on Thursday, 5 November, to level the series. West Indies took the first Test after Bangladesh made 272 and 142, and West Indies finished on 170/2 in their chase. Bangladesh then play the first Test against South Africa on 15 November.
