Kyle Verreynne, South Africa’s wicketkeeper, and batting coach Ashwell Prince have been officially reprimanded by the ICC for a Level 1 breach of its Code of Conduct. The offence came on day three of the third Test against Australia in Cape Town.

Both were charged under Article 2.8, which covers showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match. Each received one demerit point.

What happened

The charge followed the dismissal of opener Marques Ackerman in South Africa’s second innings. His request for a review was not accepted because it was not made within 15 seconds.

Prince and Verreynne admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Javagal Srinath, so no formal hearing was needed.

The penalty

A Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points. Both men received the reprimand and a single demerit point, as these were their first offences within a 24-month period.

The series and what’s next

The Test was part of the Australia tour of South Africa, 2026, which ran from 24 September to 31 October and has no matches remaining.

South Africa’s next assignment is the first Test against Bangladesh, which starts on Sunday, 15 November at 1:00 PM IST. The second Test follows on Monday, 23 November at 1:30 PM IST.
