The opening ODI between India and Sri Lanka, due in Delhi on 13 December, is likely to be moved out of the capital. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has asked the BCCI to shift the game, citing pollution and the outfield work under way at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

No BCCI decision has been announced. The game is the first of three ODIs and three T20Is that the two sides are due to play in December.

Why Delhi wants out

A sand-based outfield is being laid at the Feroz Shah Kotla, and the work will continue for the next three months. A DDCA source told PTI that pollution is a major factor and that renovation is also going on, which is why the association has requested the move.

A DDCA source told ANI that the association has formally informed the BCCI it cannot host the game because the ground is under renovation and December weather in the capital is a problem. The source added, “let’s see what outcome we get”.

The schedule and an earlier denial

The ODI leg of India vs Sri Lanka 2026: ODI and T20I Series is set to open at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, with a 1:30 PM IST start. The second ODI is scheduled for Bengaluru on Wednesday, 16 December, also at 1:30 PM IST, and the third at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19 December. Sri Lanka are due to tour India until 27 December.

The Delhi game’s venue was in question before. On 12 October, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed reports that it had been shifted to Ahmedabad, saying the board had taken no such decision. He added that bilateral matches are primarily allotted under a standard policy.

What’s next

The T20I leg of the series begins on Tuesday, 22 December at 7:00 PM IST, with the second T20I on Thursday, 24 December at the same time.
