IPL 2027 mini-auction set for 16 December in Goa, say reports
The IPL 2027 mini-auction is set to be held in Goa on 16 December, with the BCCI informing all 10 franchises, according to Deccan Herald. Business Standard, however, says formal confirmation has not yet reached franchise owners and CEOs, so the schedule could still change.
The auction returns to India after the previous three editions were held overseas, in Dubai, Jeddah (a mega auction) and Abu Dhabi.
The details
Business Standard reports that franchises have received preliminary communication from the BCCI on travel and logistics. The communication reportedly names ITC Grand Goa as the venue, with a briefing on 15 December.
Deccan Herald reports that the briefing date and the auction date have been officially conveyed to all participating teams. The two reports differ on how final the arrangements are, so the date is best treated as reported rather than confirmed.
Deadlines and rules
Franchises must submit their retained and released player lists to the BCCI by 15 November. As this is a mini-auction, each squad can have a maximum of 25 players, including up to eight overseas players. The total salary cap for 2027 is Rs 157 crore.
The future of the Impact Player rule is still under consideration. The BCCI is expected to decide on it in the coming weeks.
What it means for India
Business Standard notes that the reported auction date coincides with India’s scheduled ODI against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. That raises questions over whether either event could be rescheduled.
Holding the auction in Goa brings the event back home for Indian fans after three editions abroad.
