ICC sets LA 2028 Olympic cricket qualifiers for Jan-Feb 2028
The ICC has scheduled the men’s and women’s cricket qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics for January and February 2028. The 2029 World Test Championship final will be played in England from 8 to 12 June.
The dates are part of the ICC’s latest global events calendar, which it shared with member boards after meetings in Dubai in October.
The details
According to Cricinfo, the calendar outlines 12 men’s, seven women’s and five Under-19 events, qualifiers included, between the 2027 and 2031 ODI World Cups.
In the women’s event, Australia, India, South Africa and Great Britain have qualified. They are the highest-ranked eligible teams from their continents, based on their T20 World Cup performances earlier this year.
In the men’s event, the top-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania on the ICC T20I rankings as of 31 December 2026 will qualify directly. The ICC has also updated the direct-entry criteria for hosts United States in the women’s event.
What it means for India
India are among the four teams already through to the women’s Olympic event. In the men’s event, direct qualification for Asia will go to the top-ranked eligible team on the ICC T20I rankings as of 31 December 2026.
India’s current fixtures
In the New Zealand vs India T20I Series 2026, India won the T20I on 22 October by 4 wickets. India finished on 230/6 in 19.4 overs, chasing New Zealand’s 225/4.
The series continues with matches on Saturday, 24 October, Tuesday, 27 October and Friday, 30 October, all at 12:30 PM IST. These are listed as #2, #3 and #4 of the series.
Other fixtures on the calendar
Australia and South Africa meet in match #3 of the Australia tour of South Africa, 2026, on Tuesday, 27 October at 2:00 PM IST.
Australia then play England in the Australia vs England White-Ball Series 2026. Match #1 is on Friday, 13 November and match #2 on Sunday, 15 November, both at 9:00 AM IST.
South Africa play England in the South Africa vs England 2026-27 series. Match #1 is on Thursday, 17 December and match #2 on Saturday, 26 December, both at 1:30 PM IST.
