Chennai Super Kings are considering releasing allrounder Prashant Veer, 20, ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, Outlook India reports, citing Cricbuzz. Veer, bought for Rs 14.2 crore, scored 90 runs in six matches in IPL 2026, with a highest score of 43 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

A Chennai Super Kings official told Cricbuzz that no final decision on retentions and releases has been taken, so the move is not confirmed.

Veer’s IPL 2026 season

Veer was one of two uncapped players the franchise bought for Rs 14.2 crore each; the other was wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma. With the ball, Veer’s left-arm spin brought no wicket, and he bowled only two overs through the tournament.

Kartik Sharma and the purse

Kartik Sharma’s 295-run campaign could strengthen his case for retention by Chennai Super Kings.

Chennai Super Kings have Rs 2.4 crore in their purse. If a release is made, it would rise to Rs 7.4 crore after the annual Rs 5 crore salary-cap increment.

What’s next

Franchises have until 15 November to submit their retention and release lists. The mini-auction is scheduled for 16 December in Goa, though the BCCI has not officially announced the dates.
