Finn Allen is a New Zealand batsman who bats right-handed and opens the innings. He was born on 22 April 1999 in Auckland, and his full name is Finnley Hugh Allen. He plays domestic cricket for Auckland and, in the IPL, for Kolkata Knight Riders.
He is best known as an aggressive T20 opener. He scored 137 off 62 balls against Pakistan in January 2024, and 100 not out off 33 balls in the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa.
Early life and domestic career
Allen plays for Auckland and earlier played for Wellington. He captained New Zealand at the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
He made his Twenty20 debut for Auckland in the 2016–17 Super Smash on 3 January 2017. His List A debut came in the 2017–18 Ford Trophy on 17 February 2018, and his first-class debut in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield on 9 March 2018.

In January 2024 he made 137 off 62 balls against Pakistan, going past Brendon McCullum’s New Zealand T20I record. His 16 sixes in that innings equalled the record for most sixes by one player in an innings.
At the 2026 T20 World Cup he hit 100 not out off 33 balls in the semi-final against South Africa, the fastest century in the tournament’s history. He became the first batter to score a hundred in a knockout match at the men’s T20 World Cup. His 175-run partnership with Tim Seifert was the highest in the tournament’s history.
IPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Allen in March 2021 as Josh Philippe’s replacement for the 2021 IPL, but he did not play a match that season.
Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for ₹2 crore in the December 2025 mini-auction for the 2026 IPL. He made his debut for them against Mumbai Indians on 29 March 2026.
Playing style
Allen is an opening batter who can also keep wicket. He is regarded as arguably the hardest hitter of a cricket ball in New Zealand. His readiness to attack from the first ball, and to keep attacking, makes him a model T20 opener.
