Devon Conway out of India ODIs with concussion; Nick Kelly added

New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remaining four ODIs against India after a concussion suffered in training. Left-handed batter Nick Kelly has joined the squad in Wellington as his replacement.

India lead the five-match series 1-0, and the second ODI starts at 7:30 AM IST on Saturday, 7 November.

How Conway was hurt

Conway, 35, was injured in a collision with teammate Matt Henry while the two went for a catch in a training session in Auckland last week, Outlook India reported. The injury rules him out of every remaining match in the series.

His next major target is the two-match ICC World Test Championship series against India, which begins in Wellington on 19 November.

Who replaces him

Kelly had earlier been named only for the fourth and fifth ODIs, so his arrival in Wellington brings him into the squad for the whole of the remaining series. Auckland Aces batter Dale Phillips takes Kelly’s place in the New Zealand A squad for the final four-day match against India A, which starts on Saturday.

New Zealand were already without Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman, who have been ruled out of the series with injuries.

Henry cleared

There was better news on Henry, who was also involved in the collision. New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Friday that he has been cleared of concussion and is available for the second ODI. He had missed the final three T20Is against India with a low-grade tear in his right quadriceps.

State of the series

New Zealand were all out for 185 in 40.2 overs in the first ODI, and India won by 5 wickets, finishing on 143/5 in 22.4 overs after the chase was reduced to 32 overs with a DLS target of 143. Four matches remain in the series, which runs to 15 November.
