Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque has been ruled out of the second Test against West Indies at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium after a head injury while fielding in the first Test. Amite Hasan has been named as his replacement for the match, which started on 5 November.

Mominul is unavailable because of the mandatory seven-day concussion stand-down period. West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and chose to bat first, with the visitors eyeing a series-clinching win.

The injury and the replacement

Mominul misses the second Test, the second and final match of the West Indies tour of Bangladesh, which runs from 5 to 9 November in Sylhet. Amite Hasan comes into the side in his place.

Bangladesh are fourth in the World Test Championship standings, so losing Mominul for this match matters to a side still chasing points.

West Indies’ changes

West Indies have made two changes. John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul were ruled out with viral fever, and Joshua Da Silva and debutant Kevin Wickham came in.

Campbell made 49 in a century opening stand with Brandon King, who finished unbeaten on 81, as West Indies chased 170 in the first Test in Mirpur. Head coach Daren Sammy has said the team want to end the Test cycle with an away win in Bangladesh, and he expects a tough challenge from Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons.

State of the series

West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning in Mirpur by eight wickets. A win in Sylhet would settle it for the visitors, while Bangladesh need one to level the series.

Bangladesh’s next Test assignment is the first Test against South Africa, on Sunday, 15 November at 1:00 PM IST.
