Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss New Zealand’s five-match ODI series against India because their injuries have not recovered enough for selection. Henry Nicholls has been called in for the first three ODIs, and Dean Foxcroft is pencilled in for the fourth and fifth.

The series starts with the first ODI on Wednesday, 4 November at 7:30 AM IST. India go into it after winning the T20I series 3-2, even though they lost the final T20I in Hamilton by seven wickets.

The injuries

A recent MRI showed that Chapman’s left hamstring needs another two weeks of rehabilitation before he is fully fit, according to a New Zealand Cricket statement. Ravindra’s right shoulder needs more recovery time before he can field at full capacity, the board said.

Head coach Rob Walter called it disappointing that both players have been ruled out.

Who comes in

Nicholls covers the first three matches, while Foxcroft is lined up for the last two. Tim Seifert had originally been picked only for the fourth and fifth ODIs and now stays in the squad for the whole series.

Matt Henry is due to be assessed on his readiness to play. Matt Fisher remains in the squad for the full series as an additional bowling option.

What’s next

New Zealand and India meet again in the second ODI on Saturday, 7 November, and the third on Tuesday, 10 November, both at 7:30 AM IST. The fourth is on Friday, 13 November and the fifth on Sunday, 15 November, at the same time.
