Jack Clayton brought up his seventh Sheffield Shield hundred for Queensland Bulls against Victoria at the Gabba on day three of round three. It was his first innings since Usman Khawaja publicly backed him for Test selection.

Queensland were dismissed for 280 in reply to Victoria’s 307 all out, having resumed on Monday at 5-202.

Clayton’s season so far

The hundred follows a strong start to the Sheffield Shield 2026-27 season. Clayton’s tally stands at 293 runs at an average of 73.25, after first-innings scores of 82 and 67 earlier this summer.

Khawaja, speaking on Kayo Sports during the second Test in South Africa, complained that little attention goes to Clayton’s six hundreds. The 27-year-old Clayton said that playing for Australia has long been his aim, and called the public backing a nice gesture.

State of the match

Victoria ended day three on 6-136 in their second innings, after Jem Ryan’s three wickets. They lead by 163 runs overall.
