Starc back at No.1 in ICC Test bowling rankings
Australia’s Mitchell Starc is back at No.1 in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, overtaking South Africa’s Marco Jansen after the third Test in Cape Town. He gained one place on the back of a nine-wicket match haul in the third and final Test against South Africa.
Jansen had become the No.1 Test bowler for the first time only the previous week. He took three wickets in Cape Town, six fewer than Starc, which let the Australian reclaim the top position in a tight race.
Starc’s figures in Cape Town
Starc returned six for 72 and three for 65 in the match. Those are the numbers that moved him past Jansen in the rankings.
Jansen still leads the all-rounders
Jansen has something to take from the match too. He kept the top spot among Test all-rounders and reached a new career-high rating after his half-century in the third Test.
How Starc got here
Starc first claimed the No.1 Test bowling position in August, when he ended the reign of India’s Jasprit Bumrah.
What’s next
Australia’s next fixture is the first ODI against England on Friday, 13 November at 9:00 AM IST.
