The TATA WPL 2027 player auction takes place in Kochi on 28 October, with 146 players competing for 27 open slots. The auction starts at 5:30 PM IST.

Mumbai Indians go in with the smallest remaining purse, Rs 90 lakh for six vacancies, according to Business Standard. They can only buy Indian players because their overseas quota is already full.

How the 27 slots break down

Of the 27 places on offer, 20 are for Indian players and seven for overseas recruits. The fifth WPL season is scheduled to run from 14 January to 7 February 2027, as announced by the BCCI.

UP Warriorz’s remaining purse is reported differently by different outlets. A Wisden auction table puts it at Rs 3.65 crore, while ANI and Outlook report Rs 3.75 crore.

Mumbai Indians: small purse, Indian-only buys

Mumbai Indians must fill six spots with Rs 90 lakh. With no overseas room left, every purchase has to come from the Indian pool.

The franchise has already made one move ahead of the auction. Mumbai Indians acquired USA left-arm seamer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz at her base price of Rs 10 lakh, the first trade in WPL history.
