Impact Player rule likely to stay for IPL 2027, report says
The Impact Player rule is expected to continue for at least the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League, Outlook India reports, citing Hindustan Times. The season will be the last before the next mega-auction cycle, and at least four of the 10 franchises told the league that withdrawing the rule this late would hamper their strategy.
The BCCI has not yet issued an official confirmation to the franchises, so for now this is a report rather than a decision.
Franchises pushed back on withdrawal
The BCCI sought feedback from all 10 franchises in August on whether the rule should be withdrawn. At least four teams replied that doing so this late would hamper their strategy.
An IPL official said a rule change now would be too late for the teams and that it was unlikely there would be any change.
Where the Governing Council stands
An earlier Business Standard report said the Governing Council had discussed the Impact Player rule without reaching a final decision, and that another meeting was expected.
What’s next
The BCCI has yet to confirm the rule’s continuation to the franchises. The Governing Council’s next meeting, which the Business Standard report said was expected, is the next point at which the position could change.
