Inglis, Carey put Australia ahead in Cape Town Test
Josh Inglis finished day two of the third Test in Cape Town unbeaten on 85, sharing an unbroken 145-run partnership with Alex Carey (51 not out). Australia ended the day on 330/4, one run ahead of South Africa’s first-innings total of 329.
At lunch Australia were 90/2, trailing by 239 runs with eight wickets in hand. The match is part of the Australia in South Africa 2026 series.
How the innings stands
South Africa made 329 in the first innings after Pat Cummins sent them in. Mitchell Starc’s 6-72 on day one helped Australia pull the innings back.
Inglis and Carey then added an unbroken 145 to put Australia ahead on the first-innings scoreboard. ABC’s live report said the position gives Australia a strong chance to take the match away from the hosts and secure a series win.
Series picture
The three-match series is level at 1-1 going into this Test. Australia won by 214 runs on 9 October, scoring 390 and 314/6 against South Africa’s 284 and 206.
South Africa levelled it by an innings and 31 runs on 18 October, making 425/9 after Australia were bowled out for 99 and 295. The ICC credits Bavuma’s 179 in the first innings of that second Test with levelling the series.
