Delhi Capitals added four players at the WPL 2027 auction in Kochi on Wednesday, completing a 17-member squad. Kiran Navgire was the marquee buy at Rs 75 lakh, and the franchise spent Rs 1.05 crore in all.

The other three signings were Uma Kashvi, Nazma Khan and Kirstie Gordon, each secured for Rs 10 lakh. Kashvi is 15 years old.

The auction buys

Delhi went into the auction with Rs 1.1 crore left in the purse, five open slots and one overseas slot. They filled four of those slots and spent Rs 1.05 crore, taking total squad expenditure to Rs 14.95 crore, of which Rs 13.9 crore went on retentions.

Business Standard reported that 25 players were signed across all five teams at the auction, and that Delhi and RCB each finished with 17 players.

Core retained, six released

Delhi kept a core of 13 players, including captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland and Laura Wolvaardt. Before the auction they released Lizelle Lee, Alana King, Sneh Rana, Edlaa Srujana, Taniya Bhatia and Pragati Singh.

Outlook described the changes as a restructuring after four consecutive defeats in the WPL league finals, with Lee and Rana the most notable departures.

Batty’s view

Coach Jonathan Batty said the auction went about as well as the franchise could have hoped. He added that the squad would give him selection headaches, which he called a good problem to have.
