Sophie Dunkley unsold at WPL 2027 auction; Molineux fetches Rs 1.1 crore
Australia’s Sophie Molineux was the most expensive buy at the WPL 2027 mini-auction, going to UP Warriorz for Rs 1.1 crore. Sophie Dunkley of England, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu and India’s Saika Ishaque were among the experienced names who found no buyer.
Delhi Capitals paid Rs 75 lakh for India batter Kiran Navgire, the highest price for an Indian player at the auction.
Big names go unsold
Dunkley had listed a base price of Rs 50 lakh, one of only two players to set that maximum figure. Athapaththu and Ishaque were listed at Rs 30 lakh, the same level as Asha Sobhana and Priya Mishra, but they also went unsold, as per Business Standard’s list of sold and unsold players.
Purses and the price record
Only Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz still had more than Rs 1 crore in their purses, which made Molineux’s price unlikely to be beaten during the auction.
What’s next
The fifth edition of the TATA WPL is scheduled to run from 14 January to 7 February 2027, according to the league’s announcement of season and auction dates.
