Sophie Molineux costliest buy as UP Warriorz fill WPL 2027 squad
Sophie Molineux, the Australian all-rounder, was the most expensive buy of the WPL 2027 auction, going to UP Warriorz for Rs 1.10 crore. She was one of eight new signings that took the franchise to a full squad of 18.
UP Warriorz had retained a core of 10 players before the auction, including Meg Lanning, Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone and Phoebe Litchfield. The auction was used to add depth around that group.
The signings
Beyond Molineux, Grace Harris and Sneh Rana were among the buys, at Rs 30 lakh each, according to Outlook India’s auction coverage. Kathryn Bryce, Sahana Pawar and Manali Dakshini were each added for Rs 10 lakh.
Head coach Abhishek Nayar said the franchise went for players who could strengthen the existing group and bring flexibility across departments.
Purse and approach
UP Warriorz went into the auction with Rs 3.75 crore left and eight slots to fill, the largest purse among the five franchises, Business Standard reported.
With the 10 retained players and eight auction signings, the squad is now complete for WPL 2027.
